William "Bill" Bokenkotter was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Born in Cincinnati to the late Albert (Bud) and Helen (Pat) Bokenkotter on September 27, 1934. He was a proud graduate of St. Margaret Mary of Cortona elementary school, Purcell High School, and Xavier University. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Parish, where he coached, volunteered and raised his family. Bill was a loving husband of 53 years to the late Janice (Hofmann) Bokenkotter. Bill was a wonderful father to Tim (Mary Ann) Bokenkotter, the late Glenn (Barb) Bokenkotter, Todd (Holly) Bokenkotter, and Christine (Kevin) Preston. He loved and cherished his grandchildren, Amy, Todd, Ryan, Brad, Alli and Nicholas and he was a proud great grandpa to Zachary, Vance, Adalyn and Oakley.
Bill served as a Corporal in the U.S Army from 1954 to 1956. This may be where he learned his quick-thinking tactics as well as his ability to guide his peers through trying situations. Bill went to Xavier University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Business Administration degree in 1966. It was at this time that Bill had begun working for the Kroger company. Within a year as a Kroger employee, he was promoted to co-manager. Later, Bill used what he had learned in the Army to better his store, his zone and his people.
By January 1968, Bill, or "Bokey", or "Mr. B" as he was so fondly called was promoted to store manager. This is when his career thrived across the Cincinnati/Dayton area, and he went onto become a zone manager. He spread his knowledge of the company and his love for people across the state.
After 37 years working for the Kroger company, Bill bid farewell to his Kroger career. He kept himself busy by listening to WLW, playing golf, attending church, going to breakfast or lunch with his friends and spending time with his family.
Bill was a such a people person. He loved to make people smile. He loved to make them happy. He was always flashing his contagious smile at them. He wanted people to leave with a smile.
Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends. However, we can find peace and comfort, knowing that he is in a beautiful resting place.
