William "Bill" R. Angel, Sr., of Cincinnati passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024, at the age of 80. He was the devoted husband of the late Darlene F. Angel (nee Freel), married for 48 years; beloved father of Billy (Reggie) Angel, Joell (Mike) Chumbley, and Stacey (Mikal) Steers; loving grandpa of Billy III, Josie, Cody (Mariah), Mikal Jr., Luke, Reece and Mason; loving great-grandpa of Charlie, Greyson, and Morgen; cherished son of the late Mary and Haywood Angel and son-in-law of the late Frances (Harold) Dugan and late Joseph (Jane) Freel; beloved brother and brother-in-law of the late Gloria and Bud, Elva (late Duke), Joey, Randy (Beverly), Rachel (late Tom), Debbie (Bill), Dawn (Ray), Tracey (Billy), Carrie (Jeremy). He will be dearly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
Bill graduated from Western Hills High School in 1961 and briefly attended the University of Cincinnati. He was a talented athlete, playing four years of high school baseball with his best buddy and MLB player Eddie Brinkman. After high school, he married the love of his life, Darlene, and built a loving family legacy of three children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church and youth soccer and baseball coach at St. Teresa of Avila School for many years.
If you knew him, you LOVED him. Bill was a kind and generous soul, with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed yearly fishing trips with his life-long friends; playing and organizing the family softball league, camping trips and golf tournaments; frequent visits to the Casino to test his luck against Zeus and Neptune; and dedicated many weekends to attending sporting events for his kids and grandkids. He was a devoted family-man, adored grandfather, and loving uncle, brother, and friend to many.
It was his strong faith and sense of humor that pulled us through the hardest days of his health journey. He fought his disease with grace and courage, uplifting everyone around him as he fought through his pain. Upon leaving Good Samaritan Hospital for Hospice of Cincinnati, there was a line of nurses giving him hugs and kisses as we left to face his final days - a testament to the special person that he was. Our family would like to thank the amazing medical team for their expertise and specialized care.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, 10:30am-12:30pm at Radel Funeral Home (Neeb Rd.) followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa of Avila Church (Glenway Ave.) 1:00pm, and burial at St. Joseph New Grounds Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lupus Foundation of Cincinnati and Hospice of Cincinnati.
