Vernon R. Tinsley

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vernon R. Tinsley, age 89, on February 10, 2025. He is preceded in death by his beloved wives, Bertie Tinsley (nee Kohake), and Margaret (Peggy) Tinsley (nee Nolan).

Vernon was a loving father to David (Lisa) Tinsley, Maria (Greg) Hoy, and Scott (Karla) Colegate. He was a proud grandfather to Amanda (Glenn), Casey, Jordan, Dylan, Mackenzie, Haley, Kelsey, and Nathan, and a cherished great-grandfather to Oliver, Emmett, Nolan, Aria, and Azariah. He is also survived by his siblings, Gale (Nina) Tinsley, and Grace (the late John) Miller, along with many nieces and nephews.

Vernon lived his entire life on the West Side of Cincinnati, and often shared stories of relocating his family’s three-story house on the back of a semi from River Road to Hillside Avenue. A proud graduate of West High School, Vernon went on to serve in the United States Army. After returning home, he married his first wife, Peggy and they were together until her passing in 1985. In 1986, Vernon married his long-time friend, Bertie, with whom he shared many happy years.

For many years, Vernon proudly served the West Side community through his HVAC business, Duncan Heating. He loved to reminisce about his childhood, including how he churned his own butter during the war. Watching the “Big Bang Theory” show always brought a smile to his face!

Vernon will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on through his family, his stories, and his warm heart.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the Anderson Ferry Church of Christ, 380 Greenwell Ave., Delhi Township, Ohio 45238 from 11am until the time of the funeral service at 1pm. Burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery, 1065 Neeb Road. Arrangements are through Radel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Vernon’s honor.
