Steven Randolph “Twig” Whitson of Cincinnati, Ohio died Thursday, February 27, 2025. Steven was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Loretta Rose (Schooler) and Raymond Lavon Whitson on May 23,1950. He grew up in Northbrook and graduated from Mt. Healthy High School. He earned an A.S. in Energy Management from the University of Cincinnati. After 35 years of dedicated service, he retired from the University of Cincinnati as an Emergency Building Maintenance Supervisor with in-depth knowledge of all university buildings and UC Medical Science Building.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 45 years Joyce (Collins) Whitson, his brother Jeffrey Ray (Diane) Whitson, niece-Nicole, and nephew-Ryan.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents Loretta Rose (Schooler) and Raymond Lavon Whitson, his uncle Donald Schooler, his brother Gregory Gene Whitson; his grandparents Frida (Schleifer) and Felix Schooler and Felix Whitson. Grandparents Bertie Lee (Woody) and John Gudger Whitson.
Steve enjoyed attending HAM Radio events with his friends and had an amateur radio license N8XHM. He maintained life long friendships with classmates starting from kindergarten through high school as they all grew up in the same neighborhood; and until recently would meet for lunch including their favorite math teacher. And many of his early friends fondly remember him by his nickname “Twig”. He would also meet on occasion for breakfast with other retirees from work. Steven had a love of animals and cared for many dogs and cats as permanent rescues throughout his lifetime.
A graveside committal service will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery 701 East Ross Ave., St. Bernard, Ohio 45217 on Friday April 11, 2025 at 1030am. Friends and family should meet at the front gate of the cemetery at 1015am.
