Sara Eble

Sara Jane (Gysin) Eble, 85, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, surrounded by family.

Sara was born on May 16, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter of the late John C. Gysin and Alice Mae Klenk. Sara was a graduate of Western Hills High School, where she made an indelible mark on the girls’ sports programs. Nicknamed “Skipper,” she was a member of the Girls Athletic Association and a 2-year letter girl who was called a “one-gal team.”  At Western Hills, she played on the honor basketball, field hockey, and advanced baseball teams, and she went on to play on community baseball teams and in bowling leagues at Western Bowl well into her adult years.

Sara worked as a secretary at the Adler Company and at the William Powell Company, where she met Norbert – her husband of 54 years – after work on a golf course. Together, they enjoyed vacations around the country, attending big band dances with friends, picnics at Coney Island, and listening to their daughter Linda play her clarinet, as they faithfully attended nearly every concert she ever performed.

Sara had a nurturing nature, and she was a very loving mother and grandmother to her 3 grandchildren. She loved planting beautiful flowers in the yard, listening to Marty and Joe on the radio, picking home-grown tomatoes, befriending neighborhood cats, and watching the many birds who ate from her bird feeder. Although her last years were spent in metro Atlanta with her family, she maintained her love of baseball and her allegiance to the Cincinnati Reds until the very end.

Sara will be deeply missed by her daughter Linda (Eric) Brill and grandchildren Hallie, Noah, and Ian Brill, of Alpharetta, GA; her sister, Christine Gysin Guthrie, of Chesterland, OH; nieces Leslie (Charles) Eisler of Phoenix, AZ; and Julie (Mike) Brilla of Sagamore Hills, OH; and their families. Special thanks are extended to the administration and staff of Legacy Ridge at Alpharetta and Longleaf Hospice for their friendship and loving care.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 2 from 10-11 am at Radel Funeral Home, 650 Neeb Road, Delhi (Cincinnati 45233) for visitation, followed by a brief service onsite. Sara will rest in peace alongside Norbert at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Eighth and Seton Avenues, City of Cincinnati.
