Phyllis J Wintzinger

Phyllis Jean Wintzinger, 91 of Cincinnati, OH passed away on Christmas Eve 2020. She was born on April, 20, 1929 in Lancaster, OH to Helen and Leo Beiter. After High School, she moved to Cincinnati and became an RN at Good Samaritan College of Nursing.

She met her husband, Roland George Wintzinger, who proceeds her in death, at Good Samaritan where he was a medical student working in the Radiology Department. They married on May 5, 1951. Phyllis worked as a nurse in the hospital's delivery room after graduation while her husband was in his Radiology Residency. She retired from her hospital nursing career to raise their 6 children. She was a strong woman of faith yet private in her convictions. She was an amazing mother, grandmother (Nanny), and great-grandmother (Super Nan). She was organized in all she did and would always say, "I had to be to raise six children!". Even a close family friend dubbed her with the name "The General." Raising her children with strong morals was important to her: going to church, good manners and proper grammar were high on her list in developing a strong child. She also made sure her children were well rounded with involvement in sports and the arts, such as golf, swimming, ballet, and piano to name a few. She was a risk taker and competitive in spirit which led to her becoming an avid golfer and bridge player. She loved all things family, and not just her family but the entire extended family and often friends of family were welcomed as "family members". She also continued private duty nursing throughout her life when needed by friends and family. Always generous, she and her husband Roland made a difference in many lives from doing things such as the adopt a family program to help families at Thanksgiving and Christmas to giving gifts to St. Antoninus Parish, St. Xavier High School, Ursuline Academy, St. Ursula High School, Xavier University, Good Samaritan NICU and many others.

Her grandchildren have fond memories of sleep overs, going to the beach and lake on summer vacations, drinking whiskey sours and Starbucks, playing cards, golf and gathering at all the special holidays, and later in life, driving her to bridge and fun out to dinner dates. Many funny stories come up when her family remembers this incredible and feisty lady. She made her mark on this earth and on the next generations in her family. Her legacy is her example of how to be a strong person that lives ones convictions, not to waver yet have a heart for others, and to look for opportunities to help when one can.

Phyllis is survived by her brother Edward Beiter (Marty), and her 6 children and their spouses: Mary Gruber Neil (Don) , Mark Wintzinger (Gayla), Sue Wintzinger Horter (Kirk), John Wintzinger (Connie), Roland Wintzinger II (Kathy) and Carol Wintzinger Wilson (Matt), 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren: Erik Gruber (Lisa)-5 children, Andrew Gruber (Missy)-7 children, Jennifer Wintzinger, Matthew Wintzinger, Kristen Wintzinger, Michelle Wintzinger, Tyler Horter (Kelli)-1 child, Nathan Horter, Trenton Horter(Randi)-1 child, Lauren Wintzinger Naylor (Josh)-1 child, Chelsea Wintzinger Kleminsky (Connor), Lindsey Wintzinger, Roland "Trey" Wintzinger III

Along with her parents she is also preceded in death by her sisters Mary Jo Agosta, Virginia Shaeffer, and her brother John Beiter.

A private Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Antoninus Church.
