Michael L. Short

Michael Lloyd Short peacefully departed from this world on April 30, 2024, at the age of 63 at home and surrounded by his family. Mike was the high school sweetheart and loving husband of 37 years of Betsy (nee Brandewiede), and a devoted father to his children, Caroline (Ryan) and Glenn. He was the dear brother of Lisa (Bob) Varney. He was dearly loved by his mother-in-law, his sisters and brothers-in-law, and by a bakers’ dozen of wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathy and Lloyd Short. Mike graduated in 1979 from Elder where he ran cross country and track. He remained close with the friends he made in school throughout his life. He supported his family by working in quality control at the Zumbiel box company and then as a stay-at-home dad. He was a devoted classic rock fan and enjoyed all sports and cheering on his favorite Cincinnati teams.

Anyone lucky enough to know Mike could tell you of his kind eyes, easy-going nature, open heart, and quick-witted sense of humor. He was a faithful and faith-filled man. He gave everyone he met a fair chance and judged no one. He helped his family and friends without fanfare or expectation of praise. He had a unique quality of making others feel special. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in our hearts and in the stories we tell about him. The best way to honor his memory would be to make someone laugh every day and reflect the good you knew in him out into the world.

A visitation to honor his life will be held at Radel Funeral Home at 650 Neeb Rd. on Sunday May 5, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. William Church, 4108 W 8th St, Cincinnati, 45205 on May 6, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Burial immediately following at New St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Celebration of Life at St. William, Father Reardon Hall following mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. William School, or Hospice of Cincinnati in Mike’s honor. The family has also requested anyone who would like to share a memory, feel free to write it down and drop it in the "shared memories" box which will be at the visitation as well and at the Celebration of Life after the funeral.
