Mary Scott Reed, 84, of Edgewood, KY, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024, peacefully, surrounded by her children. Born on April 29, 1940 in Cincinnati, OH, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Edith Hoernschemeyer Scott. She married James D. Reed in 1968 and he preceded her in death November 30, 1974. She worked tirelessly to support her family and dedicated her life to loving and caring for her children, family and friends.
In her youth she loved playing softball and volleyball. She carried that love of sports throughout her life and truly enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals. Mary found joy in playing cards, bingo, reading and gaming on her ipad. Games aside, to everyone who knew Mary, her work ethic was unparalleled. She got her first job at 18 and worked for 53 years until retiring from Aberdean Express at age 71. Mary was a worker; at her career, for her family, in her home, and for her friends. Her personal strength was inspiring and she faced every challenge in life with quiet courage, even into her final days.
She is survived by 2 children; James (Kathryn) Reed of Fort Mitchell, KY, Carla Reed of Edgewood, KY, sister Helen (Ronald deceased) Strack, niece Catherine Weidner, nephew Joseph Strack, 5 great nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family, The Dean family, The Feldkamp family and The Wolfe family. In addition to her husband James D., she was preceded in death by sister Annette Scott, and brothers Walter J. and Robert Scott.
Family and friends will greet visitors from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Resurrection of Our Lord, Cincinnati, OH. with a mass of Christian burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers for the service will be James Reed, Joseph Strack, Steve Dean, Austin Wolfe, Josh Weidner, Nick Weidner, honorary pallbearers David Feldkamp and Tony Wolfe.
Burial will follow in the Saint Joseph New Cemetery with Fr Robert Keller officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html. Mary believed in their life-saving mission to find cures and treatments for childhood cancer.
