Mary J. "Mae" Nugent, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024, at the age of 98. She was the beloved mother of Judy Werle (John), the late Raymond Nugent, and Diane Carroll, and beloved grandmother to Jeff Werle (Julie), Jenny Camardo (Nick), Jamie Hughes (Brad), the late Dena Nugent, Nicole Carroll, and Courtney Main (Will). She will also be remembered with love and devotion by her great grandchildren: Samantha, Sidney, Haley, Emma, Reagan, Jaden, Jake, Ryan, Nicko, Ethan, Matthew, Emily, and Finn. She was beloved by her siblings: the late Shirley Downey (Owen), the late Dolores Feldman (Bob), the late Gilda Scarlato, Larry Panaro (Daryl), the late Joan Probst (Dick), John Panaro (Ninnette), and Toni Bailey (Bill).
Born on January 9, 1926, to John and Rose (née Marckesano) Panaro, she grew up in Fairmount, in Little Italy, and attended the San Antonio Parish. As the oldest sister she maintained the household and made sure the family stayed together after her mother passed away at an early age. The tradition of Sunday Italian dinners that her father mandated has survived for generations along with holiday celebrations with extended family. She worked at Martin’s Potato Chip factory for 14 years, transitioning over to Cincinnati Bell Telephone Company, eventually retiring from AT&T.
She had a personality that invited conversation. Mae was witty, funny, and fearless, and she was also an instigator. She liked to cause trouble in a clever way, to make people laugh and stir the pot. She enjoyed life to the fullest, traveling with friends, vacationing with family, and laughing at weekly BINGO with her sisters. Her life revolved around her family, and her family loved her. She touched the lives of generations of family and friends.
