Karen Lynn Sand (Spoehrer), born November 15, 1948 passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 26, 2024 in Cincinnati, OH. She was born to the late Clifford Spoehrer and Loretta Spoehrer (Bruns), and survived by her husband (William “Bill” Sand); son (Kevin Sand); daughter (Melissa Sand); son (Jon Sand); grandson (Lucas Sand); sisters (Gayle Wayne and Carole Gehring) as well as many other extended family members who she loved very much.
Karen was a caring, loving soul who had an infectious smile and bubbly personality that would light up every room as she entered. Her husband (Bill) was drawn to this at their first meeting and knew she was something he absolutely needed in his life. They married June 26, 1971 and spent an amazing 53 years together celebrating much love and happiness. Their bond was strong up until the end, never once getting into an argument. There have been disagreements, but never a time when they truly did not wish to be together.
Their relationship produced three children: twins Kevin and Melissa, and Jonathan. And eventually her favorite grandchild Lucas joined the family. Each absorbed her tenderness and personality, becoming true extensions of her spirit. Mom (and Grammie) meant so much to each of them. They keep close within their hearts the love which she professed hour by hour, day by day.
She had many passions which we all will remember her for most fondly. She loved solving multitudes of puzzles, reading voraciously, being creative and crafting many personalized gifted items (with her crocheted baby blankets, afghans, and Christmas ornaments probably remembered most), and taking care of all of her four legged feline friends some of which are currently loving her again (Frosty, Brandy, Chrissy, Crystal, Cuddles, Socks, Shadow, Carmen) and some waiting for the next chance (Bella and Figaro). She “may” have spoiled them like her own children.
Visitation services will be held Thursday, January 2nd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Radel Funeral Home, 650 Neeb Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45238. Mass of Christian Burial to follow Friday, January 3rd at 10:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church 1175 Overlook Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45238. To honor Karen, feel free show your love and help color up the room in her favorite color by wearing purple if you can.
Colorful flowers are welcome or donations can be made in her name to May We Help.
She will never be forgotten in our hearts and will always be with all of us, just from a little farther away.
