Grace J. Casper

Grace Jean Casper (nee Boehmer) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Osprey, Florida, passed away at the age of 96 on April 28, 2023. Grace was born in Bellevue, Kentucky to Violet and Charles Boehmer, the youngest of 5 children.

Grace met the love of her life, Dr. Joseph Casper, in 1948, while she was a nursing student at Bethesda Hospital and he was a medical student at UC. They were wed January 14, 1949, and spent 64 wonderful, happy years together before his death in 2013. They were the proud parents of three children: Talla, Tana and Joseph, all of Cincinnati. Her family expanded to welcome Joe’s wife Lisa in 1984.

Grace was an outgoing and social person who enjoyed many activities. She loved laughing and spending time with their many friends. She loved playing bridge and other games, particularly dominos. She and Joe were long-time members of Shiloh Church and were active in many activities there. They were also members of pinochle, dance and tennis groups, in addition to enjoying many hours and vacations on the Ohio River on their boat. She very successfully learned the role of being a First Mate.

Grace was very creative and artistic. She loved gardening and creating floral arrangements. She became quite adept at stained glass, creating many beautiful different types of pieces over the years. She loved her gardens and flowers. She was also an accomplished seamstress.

She loved music. She played the flute for many years, at one time considering attending the Conservatory of Music. There was always music accompanying her as she went about her activities.

More recently, she discovered jewelry-making and found another outlet for her creative talents and produced many beautiful pieces.

She loved traveling and many times said how grateful she was that she and Joe had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and the US. She had a spirit of adventure and loved experiencing new things and loved sharing the many memories and good stories of those travels.

But most of all, Grace treasured her time with her family. She delighted in time she spent with her children through the years. Family time was very special to her with family picnics, get-togethers on holidays or just evenings spent at home over dinner and games.

She was the proud grandmother of Erinlee Stiffler; Alex Lloyd, both of Cincinnati, and Dr. Joseph Casper III (JC) of Point Pleasant, WV. Grace so loved each of them and felt blessed through the years to see them grow into the successful, wonderful people they are. In 2012, Alex married Albert Lloyd and she welcomed him into her family. She often mentioned how he watched over her and was always there to help her. She was so happy when JC announced his engagement to Alice Gepshtein and was so looking forward to seeing them wed in September.

She felt even more blessed to welcome two great-grandchildren, Sadie and Violet Lloyd. She adored them and liked nothing better when they ran to her calling “Grandma” and reading to them or just listening to them tell their stories.

Besides her immediate family, Grace leaves behind many loved nieces, nephews and family members.

Visitation will be Thursday May 4th from 11:00 A.M. until the time of funeral services 1:00 P.M. at the Shiloh United Methodist Church, 4261 Foley Road, Cincinnati, Ohio
