Andrew S. Preceded in death by his beloved parents Andrew and Margaret (Nee: Nagy), and infant daughter Mary Bartish. Wedded 66 years to love of his life Mary Alice (Nee: Kerley) Bartish. Loving father of Marjorie Hartke, Dr. Lawrence (Julie), David (Kathleen and the late Joyce) and Michael (Anne) Bartish. Proud Grandfather of Elizabeth, Andy, Joe, Tony, Brian, Amy, Dave, Alison, Abby, Jack, Alex, Samantha, and Ella. Cherished great-grandfather of Louie, Rosalie, Owen, Drew, Emilia, Ellie and Ava. Dear Brother-in-law of Frank, Kenny, and the late Bobby Kerley. Also survived by numerous other family and friends. Andy passed away on May 7th, 2022 at the age of 92. Visitation will take place at St. Antoninus Church on Mon. May 16th , from 11:30am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30pm. Andrew S Bartish was born in Cleveland OH on March 27th, 1930 to Andrew and Margaret Bartish (Nee: Nagy), immigrants from Hungary. In early childhood, the family moved to a small farm where he enjoyed a lively youth, surrounded by friends that enjoyed their share of mischief. The family eventually settled in a western suburb called Avon Lake, OH. Andy was a proud graduate of Avon Lake High School, home of the “Shoremen”, where he became President of his class. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Ft Hood, TX. He proudly would recall his time spent learning how to maneuver the tanks to which he was assigned.
Upon his honorable discharge in 1949, Andy returned to Avon Lake and packed his bags to attend college. He boarded a Greyhound bus, headed south and entered the engineering coop program at the University of Cincinnati. Upon completion of his metallurgical engineering studies in 1954, Andy took a statewide Ohio for Professional Engineering test and distinguished himself with the highest score of all entrants. He was hired by General Electric as an entry level engineer. After a few years, he changed companies and began a 25+ year career with Tool Steel Gear and Pinion Company, now known as Xtek. Andy’s exceptional engineering expertise coupled with his managerial skills resulted in his rise to General Manager. Upon leaving Xtek, Andy began the final stage of his career as an entrepreneur. At the age of 56, he formed his own company in 1986 called Mechanical Tech Systems where he achieved great success as a manufacturer rep for several companies, primarily selling mechanical products to the steel and aluminum industries. Andy retired “early” at the age of 78.
While work was important to Andy, there was of course a higher priority. As the story goes, Andy and his friend Jim met two beautiful young ladies at a dance where they agreed that Jim would take the small girl and Andy the tall one. Upon closer look, Andy changed his course and began to court the small girl, the love of his life - Mary Alice Kerley. As a man of patience, Andy proposed to Mary Alice two months later and they were wed on a snowy day in April 1956. During the 66 years of their marriage, God blessed Andy and Alice with their four children Lonnie, David, Marjie, and Michael and their spouses, thirteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He enjoyed the lasting friendships that he formed in college, through St Antoninus Parish, the AXE men’s club, and Western Hills Country Club.
Andy’s personality was known to be direct and blended with a lot of sarcastic wit. Whether friend or foe, he enjoyed the kidding and ribbing that he could impart on you in conversation. He was a very good dancer, and enjoyed spinning his favorite girls. Andy was a man of strength physically (just ask the nurses) and a man of deep faith as he attended daily mass in retirement. He was a loving father to his children and devoted “grandpa” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. But mostly, he was Mary Alice’s love, captured by her young beauty at age 19 and still wrapped in the security of her tender care at age 92.
