Our Mother was born a country girl in the Hills of Kentucky, in Perry County, Hazzard in a place called Big Williard. Our Mother would always talk about living in the mountains and going out to the coal Shute with Grandpa Baker when she was a little girl she always bragged about being a Daddy’s girl. Our Mother also Loved Her Mother with every-bit of Her heart. Mom always use to tell us how when she was a child that they got one pair of shoes if they wore them out they would have to wait till fall for school. Our grandpa would kill a hog or sell a hog and if they were still at home they would get a brand new pair of shoes. Our Mother came to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1956 and came up here to baby sit Aunt Nellie’s and Uncle Curt’s kids which would have been Bill, Betty, Kenny, and Barb and I believe she said she also watched Uncle Burt and Aunt Mildred’s kids to which would have been Phyllis and Dottie and the money she would make she would send back home to help Grandpa and Grandma get by. Well that was how she met our Dad because she lived upstairs in Grandma Ethel Thomas’s house and our Dad lived downstairs and our dad would leave His guitar by the steps and our Mother would write our Dad letters and notes and that was how them hot flames got started and they ended up walking all the way to Dayton Ohio and tried to get Married and they couldn’t they tried but they couldn’t find anyone to Marry them. So if memory serves me well they got ahold of Grandpa Baker and He told Mom to come back to Hazzard and I believe it was Uncle Ed that took Mom and Dad back to Big Williard and Mom explained to Grandpa that Her and Dad wanted to get Married in the middle of the road by Preacher Caldwell. They came back to Cincinnati, Ohio and that was a relationship that lasted 44 years and Our Dad passed away November 17th 2001 on Brother Gary’s birthday and that was the only Man Our Mother was ever with, she would tell us He was the only man she ever loved and ever will love. Through-out the years our Mother took on the roll of being the care giver to Our dad’s brothers Uncle D, Uncle Junior, and Uncle Gerald. Our Mother had a rough time accepting the loss of their Grandson Dewey J Leblanc who passed away May 14th 1987. It about destroyed Our Mother and Father Most of all our Mother because He was named after Our Grandpa Dewey Baker. Our Mother endured a lot in her life, but she never complained she took care of what needed to be taken care of no matter what when Myself and Mother was called on to take care of Her Brother Bob and Aunt Harriet we took care of them up till they passed away I would drive to the Nursing Home where Aunt Harriet was at pick Her up and Me and Her would drive 45 miles to Hamilton to take Her to see Uncle Bob and then spend hours with them and then we would drive back and I would carry her and put Aunt Harriet back in Her wheel-chair and take Her back to Her room and pick Her up and put her in Her bed. Our Mother took it hard when Uncle Bob passed away, but she kept on and when there was a death in the neighborhood Our Mother was on the phone getting and preparing a meal for the Family of the Loved One that passed away, so there was no need for the family to get fed because she led the folks in the Neighborhood and this Neighborhood has got good people in it when there is a death or tragedy we come together to help out no matter what it took and Our Mother would be out front leading Amen.
Our Mother was a Very Special Lady who cared for every one that needed caring for she had a quality that you no longer find in this world anymore, people I say unto this day Our Mother showed us not told us, but showed us what it takes to be part of a family whether it was at home or whether it was in the hood when somebody needed help. She would gather everybody together. Donna Jeffers, Donna Fletcher, Joe Saylor, All of us The Thomas Family, Connie Omalley, Jim Holstrom, Linda Coldwell (BOO). And so many more and I am sorry if I left off some names because everyone who ever helped out, you are Loved and Appreciated. Please forgive Us. And all of Lower Price Hill that took part in feeding the neighborhood.
Mother We Already miss you your presence is felt now you are at home with the Lord to be absent of the body is to be present with Lord Mother we know you were saved and we know that Dad was saved so we know that you two are reunited in Heaven and that you are both smiling at each other and someday we who are saved shall see you again, when we get to Heaven we will be rejoicing in Heaven with you so that all that is here there could be a lot of us that will be rejoicing in Heaven are you one them that will be rejoicing with joy because there is no tears of sorrow in Heaven only joy. Amen!!!!!!!
